Kazakhstan
Protests have taken place across Kazakhstan. These have become increasingly violent in Almaty leading to injuries and deaths, though the situation appears to be stabilising. We now advise you 'Reconsider your need to travel' to Almaty. If you're in the vicinity of unrest, you should shelter in place until it's safe to depart. Other cities in the south are also difficult to access. A state of emergency and a curfew remains in place across Kazakhstan. Curfews could be extended at short notice. Telecommunications, including the internet, continue to be sporadic. The security situation can deteriorate rapidly, ensure you have security plans in place. Be vigilant and avoid large gatherings and protests. Monitor the media and follow the advice of local authorities. We advise: Exercise a high degree of caution in Kazakhstan overall due to the ongoing violent protests and impacts of COVID-19. Higher levels apply in some areas.
